Let’s be honest, fellow pilgrim: after walking 20 to 30 kilometers, your choice of accommodation can make or break your Camino. Over my 600 kilometers on the trail, I stayed in all kinds of places – some were just a bed, but others felt like absolute heaven.
Here is my personal, tried-and-tested shortlist of the absolute best places to stay. No boring, standard lists – just the spots that stole my heart (and saved my feet!).
🎒 My Top Picks Along the Route
Roncesvalles
- Hotel Roncesvalles — The perfect, historic place to collapse into a comfortable bed after conquering the brutal Pyrenees on Day 1. You’ve earned this comfort!
Belorado
- Igloos with Communal Covered Pool — Yes, actual igloos! Staying here is an experience in itself, and that covered pool is pure bliss for your aching muscles.
Burgos
- Hotel Corona de Castilla Burgos — A wonderful, cozy base right in the heart of the city to fully recover and enjoy monumental Burgos.
Astorga
- Posada Real Casa de Tepa — An atmospheric, antique palace that makes you feel like royalty rather than a dusty pilgrim. Absolutely stunning.
Ponferrada
- Albergue Guiana — Modern, clean, and top-tier hospitality. One of those modern albergues that sets the gold standard for the whole trail.
Villafranca del Bierzo
- Viña Femita 🏆 The Winner of my Camino! – This place is an absolute masterpiece. It has a beautiful terrace, a genuinely amazing owner, and gorgeous rooms. If you stay anywhere, make it here!

- Albergue Xacobeo — Three words: foot. massage. machine. Yes, they have one right in the lobby, and it is worth every single penny! Also consider:
- Albergue Atrio — I was hunting for this one but it was completely fully booked. My friends booked it in advance and absolutely loved it — book early!
👑 The Ultimate Camino Luxury: Paradores
If you want to truly treat yourself, you have to stay in a Parador. One of Spain’s most iconic hotel chains, consisting of luxury hotels usually located in converted castles, monasteries, or historic palaces. They are the ultimate reward for your hard work!
Santo Domingo de la Calzada
- Parador de Sto. Domingo Bernardo de Fresneda — The common areas here have an incredible, authentic antique feel that completely transports you back in time.
Leon
- Hostal de San Marcos — A magnificent monastery-hospital. If it looks familiar, that’s because it was famously featured in the iconic Camino movie ‘The Way’. Staying here is legendary.
Villafranca del Bierzo
- Parador de Villafranca — I haven’t stayed here yet – but it’s firmly on my list for next time. A beautiful, modern Parador right on the route with an amazing swimming pool and surprisingly affordable pilgrim rates.
Santiago de Compostela
- Hostal dos Reis Católicos — The grand finale. This famous 5-star hotel sits right next to the Cathedral and is one of the oldest hotels in the world. The ultimate luxury ending to an incredible journey. Book well in advance!
